UN Environment Program

The centre has been involved in a United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) funded project named the Mega-Chad project implemented in Cameroun, Chad, Niger and Nigeria. The project worked to develop appropriate rural technology options in harmony with environmental protection.

In partnership with the University of Maiduguri Centre for Arid Zone Studies, the project adopted a small town called Sabon Gari Nangere in Yobe State of the country for environmental study trials in community acceptance and adoption of fabricated energy saving cooking stoves.

The objective was to create partnership with the local communities in the Sahel, and through appropriate education and input of material, financial, intellectual resources and guidance, the communities would become self-sustaining in terms of good practices, improved livelihoods and assist in conserving the environment (2003-2005). The total proposal funding was $300,000.00.

Girl Child Education

The centre is particularly interested in improving girl child education within the North-east region of Nigeria which has the second lowest literacy rates in the country for girls.

One of our specialists has served on a technical core group of the State Ministry of Health on the Chibok girls abduction working with escapees from that group (2014-2015).

Multi-disciplinary Research

Participated in a multi-disciplinary research project funded by the Nigerian Federal Government /World Bank Science and Technical Education Post Basic (STEP-B) a major biotechnology based research undertaking in Environmental Control of desertification, gulley erosion, oil pollution and solid waste under the leadership of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) in collaboration with University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (NACGRAB), Ibadan and National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) (2010-2012).

The total project budget was $5.6 million for the Centres for Excellence Project.

IDP Relief

The organization has worked with and made donations of relief materials and resources to the Borno State Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in Adamawa state IDP camps in Yola that fled their villages due to the Boko Haram insurgency raging in the region.

Civil Society Organization

In collaboration with the Government of Nigeria, we have worked extensively in the North east, specifically in Borno State as the Civil Society Organisation (CSO) contracted to monitor the implementation of development projects across the State under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) program of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs (OSSAP) over 5 years.

This involved touring all the local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state including LGAs affected by insurgency to carry out on site assessments of projects as well as user satisfaction surveys and assess the progress of implementation of community based projects meant to positively impact the lives of Nigerians in rural areas of the State (2011-2015).

These were done with extremely strict mechanisms for accountability and transparency in independently assessing work carried out by contractors for the final reporting and assessment of outcomes. This project’s funding was a total of N58 Million over 4 years.
